10:15 am The PMO and its Long and Short Term Effectiveness Project Management Offices (PMOs) are often seen as non-revenue generating and are therefore vulnerable in these difficult economic times. Yet they provide important benefits to an organization by ensuring that projects are successfully and efficiently implemented. They can contribute to the overall effectiveness of the organization. Business Improvement Architects (bia) undertook research to find out how Project Management Offices can improve the overall effectiveness of their organizations, what strategies they can undertake to realize this goal and what may be stopping them from succeeding. They started their research by identifying organizations world-wide. They conducted almost 100 in-depth interviews with CEO's, Senior Executives and PMO staff. This was supplemented with over 850 comprehensive on-line surveys. Their first research report was released in 2005. They included various sizes of organizations from both the private sector and public sector. However, BIA continues to observe that implementing and managing a Project Management Office has not been the answer to increasing organizational effectiveness. Rather, it is the organization's approach to project management that is identified as the root cause of the problem. As well, we have found that very few organizations focus on the creation of a culture that supports project management as just a part of "what we do". This presentation and Roundtable Discussion will reveal the six critical recommendations from the research study that management must implement in order to drive improvement in the management of projects which will lead to measurable improvements in your bottom-line and customer satisfaction.
